# Expert Advice:

01 -
  • They look like you spent hours in the kitchen when you really only invested thirty active minutes.
  • Kids actually get excited about eating something with this much visual appeal, and you don't have to compromise on flavor.
  • Once chilled, they're completely hands-off, giving you time to handle other party prep or just breathe.
02 -
  • Each layer must be completely set before the next one goes in—this is the difference between beautiful distinct stripes and a color-swirled mess, and I learned this the messy way.
  • Cooling the white layer to room temperature before pouring is crucial because hot gelatin will melt your red layer and create murky brown instead of crisp color separation.
03 -
  • Use a small measuring cup or ladle to pour each layer slowly and steadily—rushing causes the new layer to sink into the previous one and muddy your colors.
  • If you don't have a muffin tin, use a small bowl or crumpled foil to tilt your cups at an angle for the first chill—it genuinely makes a visual difference.
